of Irish Studies
Founded in 1998, the Institute of Irish Studies is an interdisciplinary
program that hosts several programs aimed at educating students
about Ireland’s rich literary, political and cultural history, while
also exploring the immense changes that have accompanied the Celtic
Tiger:
FALL/SPRING LECTURE SERIES AND CONFERENCES
Each semester, the Institute of Irish Studies hosts four lectures
that explore various facets of Irish culture. Past lecturers have
included former Irish Prime Minister John Bruton, U.S. Ambassador
to Ireland James C. Kenny and most recently, former U.N. Humanitarian
Coordinator for Iraq Denis J. Halliday, who spoke on the impact
of the War in Iraq on U.S.-Irish Relations.

WFUV – IRISH MUSIC PROGRAMMING
Fordham University’s radio station, 90.7 WFUV, hosts a number of
Irish music and language programs on Saturdays from 8am to 12:30pm
and on Sunday from 12 to 4:30. These programs include Mile Failte
and Ceol na Gael, as well as A Thousand Welcomes and NPR's nationally
syndicated program, The Thistle and the Shamrock, hosted by Fiona
Ritchie.

STUDY ABROAD TO IRELAND
The Fordham Office of Study Abroad Programs facilitates opportunities
for undergraduates to study in Ireland. At present, Ireland is the
most popular site for study abroad with an average of 10 to 15 students
per year spending one semester to an entire year at universities
in either Galway or Dublin.

JOYCE IN THE HIGH SCHOOLS
In partnership with the American Friends of James Joyce Society
in New York, the Institute of Irish Studies recently launched a
flagship program in two Bronx public high schools that teaches James
Joyce’s Dubliners to underprivileged students. Participants in the
program receive additional tutoring in English and History throughout
the program and are provided with the opportunity to submit essays
in consideration for a scholarship awarded by the American Friends
of James Joyce Society.
CBA Program At University College at
Dublin
Fordham College of Business Administration maintains
an exchange program with UCD’s Smurfit school, offering undergraduate
business majors the opportunity to study in one of Europe’s premiere
business programs.

Fordham School of Law Belfast/Dublin
Study
The program offers two weeks of study at Queen's University
Belfast followed by two weeks at University College Dublin. The
opportunity to live in each city and interact with local barristers
and politicians is a unique law school educational experience. Course
offerings include: international and domestic dispute resolution,
international human rights, and international organizations and
comparative criminal justice. These are all important areas of the
law in which Fordham has an internationally recognized record.
