Fordham’s Master’s degree in Human Resources, in place for 15 years, provides rigorous academic excellence along with practical application to HR professionals in the metropolitan area. This program prepares individuals to be HR generalists, consultants, OD specialists and trainers of adults. It is designed for people currently employed in HR who want to develop themselves professionally and for people in allied areas who would like more extensive knowledge of HR. Our students come from industries ranging from pharmaceuticals to finance and from entertainment to retailing. They represent not-for-profit companies as well as those on the Fortune 500 list.
The primary objective of the program is to prepare human resource professionals who are capable of identifying emerging issues in this flat, complex and global world that can impact their organization and translating their cutting-edge knowledge into strategic initiatives that will support their organization’s efforts. The HR Master’s program is designed for practitioners. Therefore, all of the assignments in the program are rooted in the work the student is doing at his or her organization and can be immediately put to use.
Instruction follows the best principles of adult learning. Exciting classes are heavily experiential and highly interactive drawing on the needs, interests and experiences of the students. Pedagogy is multi-modal including lectures, small-group discussion, films, case studies, individual and group presentations and simulations. There is a heavy emphasis on active learning and on solving real work problems.
All faculty in the program are distinguished in their field and expert practitioners who have worked in or consulted to Fortune 500 companies. They bring their vast experience into the classroom, challenging students with current issues facing organizations, and sharing with them best practices they have seen or in which they have participated. Their course evaluations from students are unanimously outstanding which explains why almost all have been with the program the entire 15 years of its existence.
A top tribute to the program is the fact that top HR search firms consistently recruit our graduates.
Convenient Schedule and Locations
This 36-credit program is completed within two years, with students taking one course at a time. For the convenience of working people, classes are offered only on Saturdays, sometimes consecutive weeks and sometimes every other week. Summers are off.
The program is offered at both out Lincoln Center and Tarrytown campuses.
The program was developed with input from a distinguished group of senior HR professionals representing over 20 corporations including Avon, Bristol Meyers Squibb, Chase, Deloitte & Touche, EXXON, and others). Our Advisory Board monitors the program and provides advice on an on-going basis. The curriculum has been revised three times to keep up with the rapid changes in the world, in organizations and in the practice of HR.

Since the program is highly interactive and draws upon the experiences of the students, careful attention is paid to the selection and mix of students who will move through the program as an intact, cohort group.
