After graduating in 1980 from the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome, Archbishop Celestino Migliore joined the Holy See's diplomatic service. His early assignments included Angola, Washington, Egypt, and Poland. In 1992 he was appointed Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France. In 1995 he returned to Rome to work at the Vatican's Secretariat of States. In 2002 Archbishop Migliore received his current appointment as the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations.
