The Business of Life Sciences



Fordham University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine are pleased to offer The Business of Life Sciences, a unique 2-day workshop for Biomedical PhD students and post-docs who are interested in learning about business. The course is offered by faculty in the Fordham Schools of Business. Registration is required and fees are waived. You may register for one day or both days.

There are a limited number of slots available, so early registration is recommended. Registration for both days is highly recommended

DAY 1 / FORDHAM UNIVERSITY - Keating Hall Room 317
9:00 – 9:50 am Module 1: INTRODUCTION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND START UPS IN THE LIFE SCIENCES
This module will introduce students to the various components of the industry.
10:00 – 10:50am  Module 2: TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER & MANAGEMENT FOR THE LIFE SCIENCES
From intellectual property to venture capital and funding sources, from employer-employee relationships to trade secrets and export/import, all aspects of technology transfer and management are discussed.
11:00 – 11:50 am  Module 3: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND THE LIFE SCIENCES
Students gain an understanding of the key intellectual property laws and contemporary issues surrounding patents, trademarks, copyright, and trade secrets.



DAY 2/ EINSTEIN- Price Center Auditorium
9:00 – 9:50 am  Module 4: MARKETING FOR THE LIFE SCIENCES
The role and importance of the marketing orientation in the life sciences is discussed in terms of the entire organization and society at large.
10:00 – 10:50 am  Module 5: FINANCE FOR THE LIFE SCIENCES
Learn about the financing and investment decisions of individuals and firms. How do pharmaceutical firms decide which projects to fund? What are the capital sources a biotech firm may tap into? How are such firms valued by investors?
11:00 – 11:50 am  Module 6: ORGANIZATION & MANAGEMENT
Students will gain an understanding of the operational, strategic and transformational aspects of organizations.
