Travel Grant Application in MS Word

Note: Travel grants are now available for two purposes:

    (1) To present a paper / poster at an academic or professional conference
    (2) To defray the cost of traveling to conferences when being interviewed for an academic position (supporting documentation needed).

This change was put into effect at the GSA Council meeting Jan. 28, 2008. For more details, please read below:

Details on the Travel Grant Program (please read in full before submitting an application):

The Graduate Student Association Travel Grant Fund was established by the Graduate Student Association Council to provide travel funds for those graduate students at Fordham who are presenting a paper, poster, or other scholarly work at a regional, national, or international academic or professional conference. The Fund provides reimbursement only to graduate students who present or are interviewed for an academic position. If you plan on attending a conference, but will not be presenting or being interviewed, you are not eligible to receive a Travel Grant from the GSA. Please see the GSAS Internal Fellowships Page for information on Summer Fellowships and Research Grants to help you with expenses the GSA Travel Grant does not cover.

Each graduate student is entitled to a maximum of $400 per year to cover expenses incurred while presenting a paper or being interviewed at a conference as long as the Travel Grant Fund has available funds. This amount is subject to change based on the availability of funds. Eligible students will receive 75% of the amount asked for up to $400. If you plan on attending multiple conferences, keep in mind that you can only receive $400/year, regardless of whether you are presenting a paper or being interviewed. If you will only be attending one conference during the year, then your maximum award cannot exceed $400 (you will receive either 75% of your request or the maximum $400 if 75% of what you ask for exceeds $400).

You must be an eligible student or have been an eligible student when you presented to receive an award. If you present during your last semester at Fordham and get your application in after you gradaute (within 30 days after the conference), you are still eligible. Or if you present over the summer and are not in classes then, but will be in the Fall, you are eligible. If you graduate and then present at a conference, you are not eligible.

The $400 maximum covers the fiscal year. The fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. If you present during the Fall, Spring, and/or Summer (and will be a student the following Fall), you can receive a Travel Grant. However, applications for presentations during the summer must be received by June 15th and no later if you want it to be considered a request for that fiscal year.  Applications received after June15th will be considered a request for the next fiscal year. Sorry, we need time to process applications.

If you present or are interviewed in the Fall and receive a grant for $200, you are still eligible to receive another grant (up to $200) if you present in the Spring or Summer (but did not graduate in the Spring) and get your application in by June 15th. If you present in July, then the amount you request for that conference will come out of the $400 maximum for that (the next) fiscal year. If you receive $200 for a July conference, then you are entitled to another $200 for the remainder of that fiscal year or until June 15th.

(PLEASE NOTE: Every graduate student is eligible for a maximum Travel Grant of $400.00 per academic year. Unfortunately, due to limited funds, once the $400.00 maximum is reached the GSA is unable to award any further grants even to the most illustrious academic.)

**Applications are only accepted after you have attended the conference**

**Applications must be received within 30 days after the conference**

**Do not submit an application before you attend and present**

The money for The Graduate Student Association Travel Grant comes mainly from Student Activities Fees and is limited by the budget of the current school year. However, Dean Busch usually makes availableGSAS funds to help alleviate budget shortfalls; these funds, too, are limited. The Fund is given on a first come basis. A student may receive the maximum reimbursement only once during the fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). The GSA reserves the right to deny funds or reduce awards based on the depletion of the Fund.  For more information, please contact the Vice President (Gary Gabor) at the GSA Office at (718) 817-4408, or email ggabor-AT-fordham.edu.
