Accelerated Master's Program in Educational Leadership (AMPEL)
The Graduate School of Education is seeking bright, motivated PK–12 teachers/counselors with leadership potential for admission to Cohort I of Accelerated Master’s Program in Educational Leadership, an intensive one-year master’s degree program in educational administration and supervision that will prepare future school leaders and qualify graduates to take the New York State School Building Leader (SBL) Certification Examination.
Given the current need for certified and qualified individuals to assume leadership positions at the school building level, A.M.P.E.L. provides a unique opportunity for selected individuals to develop critical leadership skills to become effective and successful urban and suburban school leaders in just one year. Fordham is a partner university in the NYCDOE Pathways to Leadership/Leadership Pipeline Initiative.
The 30 credit master’s program is organized to promote learning through group projects, action research, critical reflection, intensive clinical applications, problem-based simulations, policy analysis and a year long internship experience.
When and Where
Cohort II will begin July 2013 with both a Lincoln Center Cohort and a Westchester/West Harrison Cohort contingent on sufficient enrollment.
Program Description
- This is an intensive one year master’s degree program consisting of intensive weekend courses (Friday afternoon/evening and all day Saturday) and full week Institutes (summer, etc).
- Full year clinically-rich Internship (6 credits) beginning Day 1 at candidate’s home school;
- Standards-based learning aligned with ISLLC and ELCC National Leadership Standards and NYSED and NYCDOE standards for School Leaders;
- Focus on theory AND practice through problem/project-based learning, case studies, data analysis, examination of current trends and priorities such instructional leadership and the common core standards, quality supervision and evaluation, simulations, readings, walk-throughs, internships and mentoring, etc.
Qualifications
- Have a minimum of two (2) years (three (3) years preferred) of paid, full-time teaching/counseling experience;
- Be a full time teacher/counselor in an elementary or secondary school;
- Be certified as a NYS teacher or counselor (Permanent NYS teaching/counseling preferred);
- Meet the general requirements for admission to graduate study in the Graduate School of Education;
- Demonstrate effective communication skills (written and oral);
- Have demonstrated leadership potential.

Application and Selection Process
- Submit the Letter of Intent to Apply to Dr. Lee by May 15, 2013.
- Submit Part A: A.M.P.E.L. Application including essays and portfolio/work sample and Principal’s Endorsement to Dr. Lee by May 15, 2013.
- Complete the online GSE Program Application by May 15, 2013.
- Participate in an interview (to be arranged).
- Meet Fordham University Graduate School of Education Admissions Requirements.

New York City DOE Teachers and Counselors:
Applicants who work in NYC DOE schools may be eligible for a 20% tuition remission if accepted into the program based on your principal’s endorsement. Please note that accepted NYCDOE students who get this tuition reduction cannot also qualify for Graduate School of Education scholarshipsor graduate assistantships.
