Dr. Ponterotto is both a licensed psychologist and mental health counselor in New York State, and is the former Associate Editor of the Journal of Counseling Psychology. He currently coordinates both the Mental Health and School Counseling Master’s Degree Programs at Fordham University.
 
Research Interests

Dr. Ponterotto’s primary interest is a passion for teaching Masters and Doctoral students in the counseling psychology field. He teaches from an experiential model and all his classes are highly interactive, demonstration packed, engaging, and challenging. He also enjoys scholarship, working on research teams with both masters and doctoral students. His primary research interests are multicultural counseling and education, racism, acculturation, and immigration; his preferred research methods incorporate both quantitative and qualitative methods. 

 
Recent Publications

Dr. Ponterotto is the co-author or co-editor of 11 books, the most recent being Preventing Prejudice: A Guide for Counselors, Educators, and Parents (2nd ed., 2006, Sage Publications), and the Handbook of Multicultural Assessment: Clinical, Psychological, and Educational Applications (3rd ed., 2008, Jossey-Bass/Wiley Publishers). Additionally, he is quite active in empirical research having published numerous peer-reviewed studies across a wide range of journals in counseling and psychology.

Courses Taught

Dr. Ponterotto teaches regularly courses in multicultural counseling, psychological measurement and assessment, career counseling, human development, and quantitative and qualitative research methods.
