General and Exceptional Adolescents: Biology
: Master of Science in Teaching (M.S.T.)
: Classroom Biology teacher and Special Education teacher with an extension in Biology for grades 7-12

The principles of equity, access, and rigor frame the course work and field experiences designed to develop competencies in both general and special education in Biology.
The program is distinguished by exceptionally strong field experiences, carefully coordinated sequence of courses progressing from foundations and teaching methods, and a capstone requirement which includes the development of a teacher portfolio. Candidates’ development is supported by expert faculty, master teachers and field advisers/mentors.
Applicants must have an earned degree in biology (or a related field, for example, biological sciences), with a minimum of 30 credits in biology coursework. This content must include study in the following areas: anatomy, physiology, ecology, behavior, evolution, genetics, cell biology, microbiology, diversity, growth and human biology.
- Fall: July 1

Additional Adolescent Biology Programs
In the fall and spring semesters of the first year, students are in classrooms for three full days per week: observation for three weeks, then student teaching, in the same classroom, for ten weeks.
In the fall and spring semesters of the second year, students are in classrooms for five full days per week: observation for two weeks, then student teaching, in the same classroom, for twelve weeks.
