|Dear GSE Alumni,
The Graduate School of Education looks forward to another productive and successful academic year with our alumni, students, faculty and staff. As we head back to school, we want to share the following exciting news with you:
GSE was recently awarded a $2.5 million clinically rich teacher education grant by the New York State Department of Education
The grant will provide financing for qualified students to enroll in adolescent teacher education initial certification programs at Fordham, where they will do their coursework in underperforming city schools under the guidance of mentor-teachers. Read more.
GSE also received a $1.2 million grant from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) at the Department of Education
, to train early childhood educators to become highly qualified in the field of special education. The grant allows for 40 educators to receive 70 percent tuition funding, and the project, titled "Preparing Early Childhood Special Educators for Inclusion and Addressing Challenging Behavior: A Training of the Trainers Approach (PECSE)," will educate two cohorts over the course of four years. The Division of Educational Leadership, Administration and Policy (ELAP) at GSE was recently invited to participate in the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate
Since 2007, the project has engaged some two dozen colleges and universities, which have committed resources to work together to undertake a critical examination of the doctorate in education. The intent of the project is to redesign the Ed.D. and to make it a stronger and more relevant degree for the advanced preparation of school practitioners and clinical faculty, academic leaders and professional staff for the nation's schools and colleges, as well as the learning organizations that support them. Congratulations to our ELAP faculty!
Additionally, we hope that you will become more involved with the GSE community online:
