Eva Garcia is currently the Director of the New York State Bronx BETAC (Bilingual ESL Technical Assistance Center) at Fordham University, Rose Hill. She has served as the Principal of Public School 75 in District 8 for eighteen years. This was a failing school that was scheduled to be closed. Under her leadership, it improved to the point of being recognized for its innovative programs.  During her tenure, Ms. Garcia received funding for technology and a number of programs which enhanced the instruction of English Language LearnerShe is the receipient of the Pathfinder Award for marked improvement in English Language  Arts. Only twelve schools in the state received this prestigious award in 2005. Before becoming Principal, Ms. Garcia was the Director of Personnel in District 7. She also coordinated in a number of Title VII programs in the district. Additionally, Ms. Garcia served as a bilingual teacher in several schools in District 7. She holds a BS from Brooklyn College (CUNY), MS from Hunter College (CUNY) and received her degree in Administration and Supervision from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Lillian Garcia,

Lillian is currently a  Resource Specialist in the New York State Bronx BETAC (Bilingual ESL Technical Assistance Center) at Fordham University, Rose Hill. She has served as the Principal of Public School 1 in District 7 for fifteen years. Under her leadership the school became the recipient of a Robin Hood Library in 2005 and successfully implemented Core Knowledge as the model for their Comprehensive School Reform Award. Prior to tenure at P.S. 1, Ms. Garcia was the ESL Coordinator in the District. During that time she provided professional development to District 7 teachers and administrators as well as presented at Citywide and Statewide Conferences. Her participation in proposal writing was instrumental in awarding the district Title VII and later Title III Grants. In addition, Ms. Garcia was a bilingual and ESL teacher in District 7 schools. She holds a BS and MS from Queens College (CUNY) a Professional Diploma from Fordham University and has been recognized by numerous community organizations for her many years of service to language minority students.

Marcia is currently a Resource Specialist at the NYS Bronx BETAC at Fordham University.  Marcia possesses over thirty years experience in the New York City Department of Education.  Through the years she has served students in different capacities such as Bilingual Teacher, School-based Bilingual Coordinator and Staff Developer, District 8 Bilingual/ESL Coordinator and Principal of C.S. 66.  Since retiring, Marcia has worked as a Special Education Liaison at University Heights High School and has taught ESL at the City Island School.  Working directly with children reaffirmed her belief that teachers have the immediate potential to impact positively on the lives of children.   Marcia looks forward to using her experience to serve the educators and students of the Bronx through her work at the NYS Bronx BETAC.
