Fordham University's Graduate School of Education Center for Educational Partnerships, under the leadership of Dean James J. Hennessy, Ph.D. and Associate Dean/Director Anita Vazquez Batisti Ph.D., has been awarded the NYC Regional Bilingual ESL Resource Network contract from the New York State Education Department Office of Bilingual Education and Foreign Language Studies.
The mission of the NYC RBE-RN is to assist networks, schools and districts across all five boroughs in creating professional learning communities centered on English language learner issues.
The Fordham RBE-RN offers professional development in the areas of:
- literacy instruction
- early childhood programs
- content area instruction
- school improvement
- compliance including program models and organization
In addition, Fordham RBE-RN collaborates with education and advocacy organizations serving New York City teachers, administrators, students and families. We also provide institutes and seminars augmented by on-site school support and guided by our constituents across the city. Based on performance data, schools are invited to participate in our collaborative accountability initiative with the Fordham RBE-RN team. Together, the partners plan professional development customized for school and network concerns regarding the education of English language learners.
Hands-on involvement in schools
Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education believes in operationalizing their scholarship through hands-on involvement in schools. The Center for Educational Partnerships supports and seeks out school-based initiatives and believes in supporting and maintaining the unique character of the communities that comprise our city and state. Toward that end the Fordham RBE-RN has offices in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan which bring our expertise close to our school partners. Each office provides meeting space and offers resource materials for their community. The RBE-RN staff of seven resource specialists, an executive director and a full-time clerical associate is supported by the Fordham’s Graduate School of Education faculty.
Bilingual team members
Our team members are bilingual and are experienced in meeting academic, linguistic, and affective needs of English language learners. To ensure fidelity to our mission and our contract as well as high-quality services a principal investigator and evaluator work closely with the Fordham RBE-RN. The Fordham RBE-RN benefits from overall supervision by Associate Dean Anita Vazquez Batisti, Ph.D.
