Summer Literacy Institute 2013

Re-Imagining Teaching & Learning For Contemporary Times

The 2013 Fordham Literacy Institute focuses on issues of teaching and learning in a digital world.

Bringing expertise from various perspectives, speakers will challenge teachers to rethink their classrooms and to explore various technologies for teaching literacy and content to contemporary learners.

As we look to the future of education, we know we must engage learners digitally. We must develop digital literacies and critical content knowledge, and we must transform classrooms and schools that have evolved from industrial models. Institute participants will examine where we are headed and provide tools for how to get there.

Guiding Questions

  • Who are contemporary learners?
  • What is the potential for teaching and learning in an age of Web 2.0?
  • How can we use technologies to build literacy and content knowledge and skills?
  • How can we use technologies to expand the walls of the classroom?
  • Who am I as a teacher, and where do I need to grow to meet the needs of contemporary learners?
