The Center for Educational Partnerships is part of Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education and was established by Dean James Hennessy in January 2006.

Adhering to the basic principles of applied research, the Center’s mission is to provide services and assistance to teachers, administrators, students, and parents, as well as to education and government agencies designed to enable all children to achieve and succeed.

Bilingual Education Technical Assistance Center (BETAC)– Lower Hudson Valley Regional

BETACs were established by the New York State Education Department to assist districts and schools in developing high quality educational programs to help English Language Learners (ELL) students meet New York
State’s learning standards. The Bronx Regional center, on Fordham’s Rose Hill campus, will serve more than 36,000 English Language Learners at every K-12 school in the Bronx (100 schools). The Lower Hudson Valley Regional center, on the University’s Tarrytown campus, will serve more than 15,000 English Language Learners at 340 K-12 schools in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam Counties.

Mathematics and Literacy Coaching Program

Fordham University coaches will work with teachers on site in their schools through classroom visits, modeling and demonstration lessons, team teaching with individual teachers, as well as group support activities such as study groups, courses, and workshops. Coaches will usethe practice/reflection model of coaching support, providing multiple opportunities for teachers to engage in dialogue with coaches and their peers in planning, implementing, and debriefing.
The in-classroom coaching activities are designed to focus on the needs of individual teachers to improve skills, content knowledge, and instructional practices. Fordham University coaches model “scientifically-based” strategies and techniques to foster effective teaching and promote student learning. 

Scholarships for Shortage Areas

The Scholarships for Shortage areas initiative in partnerships with the New York City Dept. of Education, is designed to increase the number of certified teachers in identified shortage areas. Tuition for 100 graduate students attending Fordham University for a master’s in adolescent mathematics, adolescent biology, or a bilingual extension (13) credits will be paid for by the NYCDOE. Recruitment is taking place now and the first cohort of students will begin January 2007.
