In striving to prepare competent and compassionate leaders who help to create a hope-filled future for our Church and world today, the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education offers courses and degrees in a variety of areas of study.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
GRE courses in religious education explore foundational issues in learning and development, teaching and curriculum. Religious education students can also explore specialized interests in adult, family and community religious education; youth and young adult ministry; and social ministry / education for peace and justice. GRE programs prepare religious educators for ministry in pastoral settings, schools, and dioceses. The GRE doctoral program prepares students for leadership in the field of religious education.

There is need for pastoral ministers to address the contemporary hunger for spirituality. By offering a variety of creative program and certificate options in spirituality the GRE is able to meet the needs of those preparing to enter pastoral ministry with a focus on spirituality as well as those with pastoral experience who seek to deepen their abilities to address spiritual needs. Students focusing on spirituality can elect a general program or a more specialized one focused on spiritual direction. There are also opportunities to incorporate coursework and training in pastoral care and counseling within a program of study focusing on spirituality.

The field of pastoral care and counseling explores the intersection of psychology with theology and pastoral ministry. GRE students in pastoral care and counseling can focus on pastoral care and counseling as an aspect of pastoral ministry or they can take a program of study emphasizing specializing skill training and solution-focus therapy. Student can pursue a program of study that leads to competency as a pastoral minister with a concentration in pastoral care and counseling, or they can prepare to become a licensed clinical pastoral counselor.

Pastoral Studies
The GRE provides a program of study that includes a focus on the general arts of pastoral ministry and the study of Scripture and theology, as well as Latino ministry. The program prepares men and women for Christian leadership and ministerial roles within the Church. It is also of interest to those seeking personal faith enrichment and who are striving to deepen the connections between their Christian faith and their everyday lives. Graduate courses for the focus in Latino Ministry are taken from those offered at the GSRRE and the Latin American and Latino Studies Institute of Fordham University, www.fordham.edu/lalsi.
