General Student Scholarship

    Eligibility:    
    All students (International and Domestic) taking courses that will lead to the receipt of degrees (Certificate, 36-credit Masters Degree, 60-credit Masters Degree, Professional Diploma, Doctor of Ministry, or Ph.D.) at Fordham University’s Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education.  The range of financial assistance offered by GSRRE is 25% - 50%.  The academic criteria are as follows:
    Certificate & Masters Degree Candidates: Maintain minimum GPA of 3.00
    Ph.D. & D.Min Degree Candidates: Maintain minimum GPA of 3.50

    In addition to the determination of the student’s need, other major factors involved in the awarding of financial aid are (1) available funds and (2) the number of students requesting funds.


    Requirements:    
    1. Complete the General Scholarship Application form.

    2. Students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every school year.  FAFSA on the Web allows you to complete and submit your financial aid application electronically.  The FAFSA must be filled out at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.  Students earning a salary directly from their place of employment or who may be receiving assistance from their spouse must complete the FAFSA. 

    3. In addition, residents of New York State must file a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application.  

    Note: Students who are not US citizens or permanent residents are not required to file the FAFSA with the federal government, but must submit the General Scholarship Application form to the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education.  International Students must also attach a copy of their Certificate of Eligibility Application & Affidavit of Support to the General Scholarship Application form.
    Note: Religious Priests and Religious Sisters are not required to complete the FAFSA but must submit the General Scholarship Application form to the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education.  (Diocesan Priests must complete the FAFSA)


    Deadlines:        
    The General Scholarship Application form must be submitted to the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education by May 1 for the Fall Term and November 15 for the Spring Term.

    The FAFSA must be filed with the Federal Government by April 15.  It typically takes three weeks for the FAFSA to be processed.  To indicate that Fordham University should receive the required information and the needs determination from FAFSA, use the following information when filing:

    Please note:
    1. The tuition discount can only be applied to 6 credits or more per semester.  Course work taken outside of the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education cannot be given the tuition discount.  Non-matriculated students are not eligible for the tuition discount. 

    2. The discount also does not apply for:
     
    • Dissertation Format Review
    • Dissertation Qualifying Paper
    • Dissertation Mentoring
    • Maintenance of Matriculation
    • Students receiving other scholarships from Fordham
    • Non-Credit Courses
    • Courses taken for Audit
    • Students who have a graduate assistantship
     
    The General Scholarship Application form may be mailed or submitted by hand to a staff member with the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Education.  The Office is located in Keating Hall room 303.
