Two NEW Certificate Programs Introduced in Fall 2014

Advanced Certificate in Christian Spirituality
This 18 credit certificate program is for those who wish to deepen their understanding of Christian Spirituality. Students may complete the program for faith formation, personal enrichment, or to aid their ministry work in houses of worship. The certificate can also serve as an introduction to our Master of Arts and Doctor of Ministry degrees in Christian Spirituality or our programs in religious education, pastoral counseling and pastoral ministry. Successful completion of the certificate program will grant you admission to the Master of Arts in Christian Spirituality.

Advanced Certificate in Latino Ministry
This certificate is an advanced credential for those who have an MDiv or a related MA and who want to develop their competency to effectively minister to the growing Latino community in the United States. Through a variety of practical ministry courses, such as Ministry with Latina/os and Latina/os Spirituality, as well as theological courses, such as US Latin@ Theology, students will be exposed to the faith-life and theology of US Latinos from an ecumenical perspective. 12 credits

Other Certificate Programs
Graduate Certificate in Faith Formation
An 18-credit certificate offered for teachers, parish religious educators and catechists, volunteers, parish ministers and those interested in deepening their knowledge and appreciation of the faith tradition. The program is grounded in solid theology, spirituality, religious education and scripture. There are sufficient electives offered in the program to allow flexibility in responding to individual needs and goals. The competencies outlined by the United States Catholic Bishops in their document, “Co-Workers in the Vineyard of the Lord,” are included in the courses offered in either the traditional classroom setting or online.

Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction
The Graduate Certificate Program in Spiritual Direction is comprised of 18 graduate credits focused specifically on the core competencies needed by a spiritual director. The spiritual direction courses are designed to identify the participant’s potential for becoming a spiritual director, to assist the participant in discerning a call to this ministry, to formulate a model of spiritual direction and to develop the specific skills needed by a spiritual director.

The program is designed for pastoral workers or ordained ministers who already have an M.A., M.Div., D.Min. or Ph.D. in theology or religious studies. A second potential group of students are professionals with master’s or doctoral degrees in clinical areas such as social work, pastoral psychology, counseling, etc., who want to integrate spirituality into their practices or who wish to understand how spiritual directors and therapists might work in concert with one another.
