ELAINE NORMAN Professor
Dr. Norman received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Columbia University and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and her M.S.W. from Fordham University . She has received state and federal research grants to study such topics as the social service needs of the birth mothers of children placed in foster care in New York City; nonmarried mothers who choose to raise their children themselves; women and mental health; and adolescent substance abuse prevention. She has published extensively in these areas, and on such topics such as resiliency enhancement in social w ork practice. She was a founding editor of Affilia, a Journal of Women and Social Work and is on its Board of Directors. Her current interests center around the circumstances and “resiliencies” of older women and their reciprocal contributions to family and community.
