CHARITY EXECUTIVE SEES NONPROFITS AS NATION'S SOCIAL CONSCIENCE
In his famous 1961 inaugural address, President John F. Kennedy called upon his fellow citizens to "ask what you can do for your country" to fight tyranny, poverty, disease and war.
Allan Luks, then a young college student, heard the president loud and clear.
Kennedy's famous call to service inspired Luks to join the Peace Corps after finishing law school at Georgetown. After working with the poor in Venezuela, Luks returned to New York City and continued to serve the poor as a community action lawyer in East Harlem.

NONPROFITS DISCUSS THE ISSUE OF TAX DONATION DEDUCTIBILITY
More than fifty staff from local nonprofits gathered on September 27 at Fordham University's Lincoln Center campus to discuss whether nonprofits should challenge government proposals to limit the deductibility of contribution in order to raise money to reduce the nation's deficit and support programs to lower unemployment.

FORDHAM OFFERS TRAINING FOR NONPROFIT LEADERS
Fordham has launched a center that offers top-notch executive education for leaders of nonprofit groups.
The Fordham Center for Nonprofit Leaders, which is run by the graduate schools of business and social service, is an intensive and comprehensive program. Faculty members hail from Fordham graduate schools as well as New York-area nonprofit and business organizations.
