Fordham University's GSS Continuing Education Department is pleased introduce you to our CASAC Certificate Program.  


History and Mission

The Fordham CASAC Program is a program developed by the Continuing Education Department of Fordham University's Graduate School of Social Service. Originally developed and funded in 2010 through a Stimulus Grant from OASAS which provided free education to unemployed and underemployed individuals looking to become addiction counselors. After the government ceased providing stimulus grants a year later, the program was re-tooled to open their doors for students of all backgrounds.

The mission of this program is to provide quality education to help students secure the Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) license. As part of the Graduate School of Social Service we understand that in order to create superior counselors, we must and will meet not only the educational needs of our participants, but also address psychological, physical, and environmental barriers to their learning and hireablility.  Our program is dedicated to setting our students up for success.


Individual Attention

In an effort to maintain a quality education, our program prides itself in provided individuated attention to all students in the following ways:

* Small classrooms (no more than 25 students).
* Student services check in once per semester.
* Bi-weekly assessments of student progress from each instructor to Program Director which will
  lead to addressing overall educational concerns should they arise.
* Open door policy for all students to contact Program Director. 


Program Services

In addition to the 350-hour education, participants in this program will be provided the following services:

* A CASAC based internship placement
* Job readiness training which includes resume building and interviewing skills.
* Exam readiness training
* Connections to job recruitment (coming soon!)
* Access to school services such as libary, language lab, health services and more.


Program Structure

The Fordham CASAC Program is constructed as a year-long program with three semesters and each semester containing three courses. Please view the side tab titled "Curriculum" for more information on courses. 

The semester length is 13 weeks long with classes lasting 3 hours and 30 minutes. Semesters are separated by vacations of approximately 2 weeks in length. The program utilizes a letter grading system which will be calculated based upon class participation, attendance, and competency in course assignments. 

Each course is only given once per year, therefore if a course is skipped or failed, a participant will have to wait until the following year to complete it. The standard program enrollment is full time however accommodations of part time enrollment is possible on a case by case basis. 

Students may begin their program attendance at any semester thus we have year round application.

Program cost is $4,500 which is broken down as $1,500 per semester.

Classes are held  on Wednesday evenings and all day Saturdays.
