CYNTHIA CANNON POINDEXTER, Ph.D., Associate Professor

Dr. Poindexter has been a human services practitioner since 1975 and in the HIV field since 1987. She was the first social worker at the first AIDS Service Organization in South Carolina. She has taught graduate social workers at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Boston University, and Fordham University, where she is currently Associate Professor. She has consulted with 7 AIDS local and state service programs in Boston and Chicago. She has been a trainer for the S.C. AIDS Training Network, the Southeast AIDS Education and Training Center, the Midwest AIDS Training and Education Center, the New England AIDS Education and Training Center, the NASW HIV Spectrum Project, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health HIV Division, and the HIV/AIDS Service Administration of New York City. She has been an associate with the National HIV Research Center and a board member of the National Association of HIV Over Fifty. She has received 11 HIV-related research grants and was a Fulbright Senior Specialist at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. She has written over 50 HIV-related published peer-reviewed articles, chapters, essays or reviews .
