Concentrations

Social Workers perform diverse functions and follow different tracks in their professional lives. These are reflected in the three areas of concentration offered at Fordham's Graduate School of Social Service.

Clinical
: direct practice with individuals, families and groups

Administration
:
NEWS: This Concentration is to be renamed LEADERSHIP AND MACRO PRACTICE beginning in the Fall of 2009

Track A - Social Work Management- organizations and systems, policy development, supervision, funding, grant proposals
Track B - Client Centered Management- both direct practice and management responsibility

Research
: development of the knowledge base of the profession through hypothesis. research study and the reporting of findings

Students choose an area of concentration during the Advanced Phase of their study, after completion of the Foundation Phase (the first 33 Credits).  The concentration chosen will affect both the choice of field work placement and the specific Advanced Year coursework completed by the student.
