Clinical Concentration
The Clinical Concentration is designed for the practitioner who is interested in providing social work services and treatment in a direct manner to individuals, families and groups.
Required concentration classes introduce multiple theories and in-depth intervention skills.
The program provides advanced study of clinical assessment and diagnosis.
Electives may be chosen either to enhance areas of concentration or specialization, or may be used to supplement the student's knowledge in other areas of social work practice.
Field Work is completed in an agency setting wherein clinical skills can be utilized, enhanced and refined.
Supervision in the field is provided by experienced MSW clinical practitioners.
The Seminar in Clinical Social Work Practice (SWGS 6415), required for this concentration, provides an opportunity for case presentation and discussion in a collegial environment.
This concentration provides an excellent basis for practice in a variety of clinical settings: e.g. hospitals, outpatient mental health programs, foster care and adoption services, schools, family therapy centers, hospice programs.
