Clinical Concentration

Clinical Concentration

The Clinical Concentration is designed for the practitioner who is interested in providing social work services and treatment in a direct manner to individuals, families and groups.
  • Required concentration classes introduce multiple theories and in-depth intervention skills.
  • The program provides advanced study of clinical assessment and diagnosis.
  • Electives may be chosen either to enhance areas of concentration or specialization, or may be used to supplement the student's knowledge in other areas of social work practice.
  • Field Work is completed in an agency setting wherein clinical skills can be utilized, enhanced and refined.
  • Supervision in the field is provided by experienced MSW clinical practitioners.
  • The Seminar in Clinical Social Work Practice (SWGS 6415), required for this concentration, provides an opportunity for case presentation and discussion in a collegial environment.
  • This concentration provides an excellent basis for practice in a variety of clinical settings:  e.g. hospitals, outpatient mental health programs, foster care and adoption services, schools, family therapy centers, hospice programs.
