Research Concentration

The Research Concentration is an option for students of social work who are interested in engaging in research projects which will enhance the current base of theory, knowledge and practice experience for the profession.
  • Classes in statistitics and advanced research design are required
  • Elective classes can be taken in other areas of concentration to support a full understanding of social work as a profession
  • A research concentration can be an excellent foundation for study on the doctoral level
  • Faculty advisers and specialists in research assist students with all aspects of the MSW advanced year
  • Field Work is provided either within an agency setting or in a Fordham based research project, including work with doctoral candidates and faculty members
  • Supervision is provided by experienced researchers in the field
  • Some stipends for grant-funded projects may be available, though this may vary during any given academic year
  • Students submit their research as their major project and also have opportunites to participate in professional research presentations
  • The Research Concentration qualifies MSW graduate for work within agencies and academic instituitons engaged in social work research, theory and practice evaluation, as well as research for agency directors interested in the improvement of the delivery of service and grant/funding opportunities.
