Non-Matric Study

Non-Matriculated Study

Prospective students who wish to enroll on a non-matriculated basis may take a maximum of 12 credits (four courses). Such a program may be initiated in the fall or spring semester. No application is required for non-matriculated study, although it is required that all students participating in graduate-level study must have earned a bachelor’s degree. To enroll on a non-matricualted basis, you need only attend the registration/s listed below. These students are required to provide proof of a completed bachelor's degree--i.e. a copy of a diploma, or an official or unofficial transcript showing degree granted and the date upon which it was conferred.

If a grade of B or above is achieved in the non-matriculated class, the course will apply toward the M.S.W. degree at the time of matriculation, if the student applies and is admitted. It should be noted that admission to the M.S.W. program is not automatic for applicants who have completed courses on a non-matriculated basis. A full application is required.  The six courses available for non-matriculated students are listed below. Please note that not all courses will be offered in any given semester.

SWGS 6208 — Human Behavior and the Social Environment I
SWGS 6209 — Human Behavior and the Social Environment II
SWGS 6801 — Social Work Practice
in Research I
SWGS 6802 — Social Work Practice in Research II
SWGS 6006 — Social Welfare Policy and Services
SWGS 6303 — Human Service Agencies As The Context For Practice (Elective, available at Lincoln Center only)

The cost per credit for Summer 2008 is $685 per credit. Tuition for Fall 2008-Spring 2009 is $715 per credit. All courses offered on a non-matriculated basis in the School of Social Service are 3 credits. Traditionally, cost-per-credit fees increase about 3% each academic year.  Tuition and fees for subsequent academic years have not been established at this time.

Non-Matriculated students should attend Registration on the designated date for non-matriculated registrants.  These students are required to provide proof of a completed bachelor's degree--i.e. a copy of a diploma, or an official or unofficial transcript showing degree granted and the date upon which it was conferred.
