Foundation Year Plan of Study

The Foundation Year (or Foundation Phase) in the MSW program is focused on providing a basis for more advanced study in the the Advanced Year.  Students will gain a grasp of social work practice from a Generalist Practice perspective.  The plans of study provided here offer a general guideline to the sequence of coursework.  Standard Model students (full-time) finish 33 credits in their first academic year; Extended Model and Experienced Model students start the program more slowly, usually taking only 12 credits in the first academic year and completing the other 21 credits of the Foundation phase in their second academic year before choosing a concetration and/or specialization and continuing on to the Advanced Year of the program.
