Why a Specialization?
Choosing a specialization can be a way to jump start your career and focus your education on the field of practice and client group whose needs are paramount to your own interests and closest to your heart.
The MSW program at Fordham is divided into two phases, a foundation year and a more advanced year; the initial curriculum is geared toward a generalist practice perspective, creating a foundation for further study. In the advanced phase of study, students may opt to choose a specialization in a specific area of interest. A specialization is not a required aspect of the the MSW program, but students who are interested in and committed to a particular population or specific area of social work practice are strongly encouraged to pursue a program geared toward that interest.
The current areas of specialization offered by the School are:
Children and their Families
Substance Abuse
Social Work and Law
Older Persons and their Families
Global Service
