Fordham University The Jesuit University of New York

Dear CBA Seniors,

Dear Graduate – Class of 2009:

In just a short time you will begin your final journey through Fordham. It is hard to believe that graduation is just around the corner. To ensure that things run smoothly let me review some procedures.

As you know, 40 courses and at least 120 credits are required for graduation. If you have any outstanding transfer credits from another institution, you must have an official transcript sent directly to me. The deadline for transcripts is November 3, 2008. Please note that it is your responsibility to determine that you have satisfied the graduation requirements.

On your schedule you will notice the following code: ZABUADV4-SENIOR ADVISING. There will be a series of meetings, some are mandatory, others will be optional. Each student will receive an (S) Satisfactory if you have attended the mandatory meetings or a (U) Unsatisfactory if you have not attended the meetings. This will become part of your permanent record.

In the fall, I will meet individually with all seniors to review your curriculum analysis sheet. These sessions are mandatory and by appointment – scheduled times can be accessed through www.cbaaccess.com. The meetings will begin the week of September 14th. The purpose is to discuss your graduation status and to give you a candidate for degree card to bring to the registrar’s office. Without this card the registrar will be unable to order your diploma. If you are completing the Globe specialization please contact Dean Catherine Einersen at: ceinersen@fordham.edu.

As you already know, resumes are a critical piece to landing that special job. I plan to review each seniors resume to make sure it is flawless and help create an excellent tool to make you more marketable. Please email a copy of your resume to me at: namccarthy@fordham.edu. Also, by having a copy of your resume on file it makes it easy when we are contacted by different companies looking to employ Fordham students.

The following mandatory meetings are being set up. When I have confirmed the dates I will send you an email.

Fall semester: Dress for Success – we will be working with Van Heusen to discuss, business attire, dress-down days, and helpful hints on how to mix & match your clothes to maximize your wardrobe.

Spring semester: Citi Habitats will hold a seminar on how to find the right apartment, meeting the landlords financial requirements, the best locations, and living with/without a roommate.

There are many exciting events being planned this year and I hope you will take advantage of them. We will continue our “book club” and I encourage you to read "EAT, PRAY, LOVE" by Elizabeth Gilbert, and, "JUST WHO WILL YOU BE?" by Maria Shriver. We will have an informal gathering to enjoy a casual exchange of ideas. If you wish to participate, you will be able to sign up on www.cbaaccess.com. The meetings are: September 24th at 2:30pm (activity period) for "EAT, PRAY, LOVE"; October 1st at 2:30pm (activity period) for "JUST WHO WILL YOU BE?"

In the spring, there will be a mandatory group exit meeting (the entire class) to discuss graduation-awards night-graduate salute and any problems pertaining to graduation. A letter will be going home in the spring to discuss at greater length.

Let me recap all the bolded mandatory meetings for your senior year at Fordham’s College of Business Administration. They are listed below:

Fall 2008
  • Individual meeting to discuss graduation requirements
  • Professional dress – how to maximize your wardrobe

Spring 2009
