Student Testimonials

"As Lonely Planet so appropriately explains, “ China isn’t a country, it’s a different world.” And after spending a semester living there, I can attest that no truer words can be spoken. Until you have been to China, you cannot even begin to understand the depth of this country. China is home to wonders of both the modern and ancient world. It possesses one of the world’s most extraordinary, unique cultures; but yet, to the outside world the Middle Kingdom remains a basic mystery. Nevertheless, in this world of rapid globalization, the sheer market potential of the nation’s 1.3 billion people has led to race for understanding.

"Up to date, my time spent studying abroad in China has been one of the best in my life. It combined numerous unforgettable experiences, in the realms of adventure and academia. I rode camels to watch the sunrise in the Gobi Desert, I stood within feet of 8,000 lifesize terracotta warriors that date back to 207 BC, I took a mud bath in the ancient caves of China. I meditated outside Beijing at one of the most renowned Buddhist monasteries. I watched the flag rising in Tiananmen Square on China’s Independence Day. And, for four months, I lived amongst a people whose average income is less than $350 US a month. I paid witness to a country who less than a quarter century ago was closed off to the rest of the world, whose education system was abandoned for 10 years. I watched as these people worked day and night to prepare themselves for an Olympics and show the world who they hope to become. China is remarkable. The study abroad experience that it provides is incomparable. To live in a nation caught between modern, capitalism and a deep-seated, communist past is truly the chance of a lifetime. The development is so rapid, the opportunities endless, the experiences unforgettable, and the knowledge gained invaluable."

"I learned a lot of things in China but the most important is how truly lucky we are in America. The standard of living far exceeds that of any where I've ever been. I had a great time going all over China with TBC and they were very helpful with my education in China. I was glad we got to stay with students from around the world and that our group was so small and close knit. I learned so much about the Chinese language, culture, and geography. It was the best experience of my life."
