CBA Internship Program
Students in the College of Business Administration are encouraged to pursue internships as a part of their preparation for future careers in business and related fields. Internships are one of the most important extra curricular activities that a student may pursue in order to make the jump from college to employment; They are invaluable sources of real world knowledge, understanding and experience.
Students may pursue one of two types of internships: "for credit" and "not for credit." Students are allowed to take a maximum of one internship for credit in CBA, though there is no limit on the number of "not for credit" internships that a student may wish to pursue.
For Credit Internship
In order for a student to receive credit for an internship, the following sequence of events must take place:
1.See your class dean
2. Choose an internship course to enroll in for the following semester
3.Go to the Fordham Internship Office (McGinley Center, room 219) and go to the required information session (CBA
students taking the accounting or marketing internship class - see the professor)
4.Seek out an internship through the Internship Office, search on your own or see the professor supervising the
accounting or marketing internship class (whichever applies to your circumstance)
5.Have the internship approved by the Internship Office or by the professor if it is for the accounting or marketing
internship class (whichever applies to your circumstance)
6.Have the internship begin approximately the same time as the course
7.Put in at least 120 hours in the internship for the semester (or summer)
8.Complete (and pass) the internship course taken in conjunction with the actual internship placement.
Note: If students wish to pursue an internship but not for credit, they should follow steps 1,3, and 4.
Internships for Freshmen
It is not unusual for a student to pursue an internship or business related part-time job on a "not for credit" basis during
the first summer following freshman year. In fact, this practice is highly encouraged. For advice and guidance please see
your class dean or the Internship Coordinator at Career Planning and Placement in McGinley Center. Freshmen and
sophomores typically pursue "not for credit" internships.
Internships for G.L.O.B.E. students
The experiential component of the G.L.O.B.E ' program can be fulfilled with an international internship and/or Study Abroad
Program. The internship can be "for credit" or "not for credit" Students must see the Director of G.L.O.B.E. for approval and
documentation.

Summer Internships
Many students in CBA intern during the summer. These internships allow students to typically work on a full-time basis for a two to two and a halfmonth period. Many of our students pursue these types of internships each summer. Some of the internships are in New York City, while many others are found in the students home area.
Credit for summer internships
Students may receive credit for a summer internship as long as they follow the steps listed on the previous page and seek the formal approval of the internship prior to leaving Fordham in the Spring (prior to the internships start date). A 3-credit internship course is available during the summer semester.

When searching for an internship
1. Begin gathering company information during the winter break and into early spring (for the following summer)
2. Remember that some companies have very early deadlines for submission for summer internships (below are a few examples)
The Dow Jones Company's deadline is typically just prior to Thanksgiving for the following summer
The Federal Reserve Bank of New Yorles deadline for submission is typically around February. In some cases it is a good idea to begin the data gathering as soon as possible so you do not lose out on any opportunities.
3. Many companies have deadlines through February, March, April and, in some rare cases, May.
4. Make weekly to bi-weekly trips to the Internship Office (McGinley Center, room 219) and the Student Center of the College of Business Administration (Faber Hall, room 359) to check for new listings of posted internships.
