Help create a vibrant learning environment that inspires our students and pushes them to achieve.
Poets Out Loud Endowment
Poets Out Loud gives poetry a greater voice and presence in New York City. Your gift will help us expand Poets Out Loud and raise the profile of the college as a leader in the arts. We seek to establish an endowed poetry series, named for a donor, as well as endowments for book prizes, more staff support and efforts to build the visibility of Poets Out Loud, among other enhancements.
Learning Communities/Collaborative Creativity Programs
Gifts in this area will create an endowment in support of two innovative programs. Learning communities allow students to live together on the same floor in McMahon Hall, where they study together and meet with faculty for lectures and events. They explore the city together and jointly design educational and service activities. To bring together students whose schedules may keep them apart, the communities include commuters as well as campus residents.
The annual fund uses include scholarships, assistantships, guest speaker series, professional and career development programs, and research grants for students and faculty. The fund also helps the dean of the college seize emerging opportunities or pursue strategic initiatives and partnerships.
The University recently established the Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre, thanks to a $2 million gift from the Academy Award-winning actor, a 1977 alumnus of Fordham College at Lincoln Center. The endowed chair allows the Theatre Department to bring the most accomplished actors and directors to Lincoln Center for one-year teaching engagements, continuing the parade of acclaimed actors—including Willem Dafoe, Patricia Clarkson, Julie White and Washington—who have come to the classrooms at Lincoln Center in recent years. Tony Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad is the inaugural chair.
