  INITIAL TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS

Fordham College at Rose Hill students have the opportunity to earn a teacher certification through the Graduate School of Education. The programs provide an opportunity for students to complete a major in the liberal arts or sciences and to use their elective credits for a sequence of courses required for New York State initial teacher certification as elementary teachers, or as secondary school teachers of biology, English, or social studies. Courses and fieldwork in the program begin in the sophomore year, although the majority of the teacher preparation work and student teaching is done in senior year. To complete the required sequence of courses, interested students must contact the teacher preparation program during their freshman year and be advised by the teacher preparation coordinator as well as by their regular undergraduate advisors. These programs, revised according to New York State regulations, will qualify graduates for institutional endorsement for initial teacher certification.
