The Residential College at Tierney Hall has many unique opportunities for students. Tierney students are constantly fusing their Tierney living and Manresa Seminar learning through the use of smart seminar classrooms and lounge spaces. This is made possible by the summer 2007 $1.2 million renovation, providing upgrades to all common spaces with the goal of enhancing Tierney residents' out of classroom educational experience. Whether you wish to enjoy studying amongst friends in one of the study nooks, preparing for a class on one of our flat panel LCD monitors, hosting a teleconference with old classmates from high school, or simply watching a movie on our two projector lounges, Tierney Hall offers many means of both relaxation and study. White boards and WIFI access are available throughout the building to help expand your classroom experience. The community also features three coffee/ tea bars located throughout the hallways. Tierney houses newly renovated kitchen facilities perfect for gathering friends for a meal or whipping up a quick study snack.
Tierney Hall residents serve on one of 5 student run committees within the building. These committees encompass the areas of Beautification, Social Awareness, Community Service, Appreciation, and the publication of the two Tierney literary magazines. Each student is expected to participate in at least one, if not more, committees throughout the year. Furthermore, new committees have the potentiality to develop based on student request and need. For example, this year residents initatived the Food Committee, which utilizes the newly renovated kitchen to sponsor community wide meals.
Tierney residents attend monthly Town Hall meetings, where they can voice community issues and suggest improvements, as well as provide committee reports. Tierney students also have multiple programmatic events they may attend each week. The hall regularly views Broadway, Opera, and Ballet performances throughout each semester. The hall hosts weekly Mass in our beautiful Del Stratta Chapel, weekly board game competitions, monthly community meals, and monthly town hall forums for all students to voice their experiences in Tierney. The staff also collaborates with the Manresa faculty on programs to supplement the Manresa seminars. The staff constantly is programming so that there is always something to do whether it be a study break or community gathering.
