Tips for Maneuvering through Oasis
Note: When attempting to maneuver back to the main page of Oasis, do not click the “home” option in the upper right. It will prompt you to sign in again unnecessarily. Instead, click the “site map” option that appears first in the options at the upper right.
Registering & Checking for Holds
Before attempting to register for classes, you need to make sure there are no holds on your account. If there are holds, Oasis will not allow you to register. So check before you are scheduled to register to avoid unfortunate delays.
1) Log on to
Oasis
2) Make sure you’re looking at the page for the
Current Term (it will be appear immediately after you log in)
3) Scroll down to third section in the first column on the left side of the screen called
Student Records
4) Click on the fourth option titled
Holds
5) Hopefully it will say that you have no holds. If this is the case, you can continue to register without a problem. If there is a hold, e-mail your class dean, and they can help you. Most holds are either financial or immunization. Financial holds need to be rectified in Student Financial Services (Thebaud Hall), and immunization holds in Student Health Center (lower level, O’Hare Hall).
Degree Audit
The third option under the same section (Student Records) is called
Degree Audit, and it is often helpful when determining what classes you should register for next semester. You should consult it before planning hypothetical schedules.
1) Click
Degree Audit on the Student Records column of Oasis
2) If prompted, select
Primary program and click ‘submit’ on the bottom of the page
3)
Section Two, titled “Academic Requirements Remaining” will detail what parts of the core curriculum or major you should be registering for (look under the title
FCRH Core Requirements and then under your major). Here you will see what requirements remain to graduate.
4) Section Three, titled
Academic Requirements Completed or in Progress, will detail what you’ve fulfilled/in the process of fulfilling. AP credit will appear and highlight what courses you should avoid.
Course Catalog
Now it’s time for the best feature of Oasis: the course catalogue!
1) The last column on the site map is titled
Courses
2) If you are unsure what classes interest you, click the second option titled “Course Catalogue”
3) Under the “Undergraduate Schools” section, click
Fordham College at Rose Hill
4) Select the department that you would like to learn more about
Course Sections
Unfortunately, the
Course Catalogue is not where professors and specific class sections appear. It is also possible that no class sections for a given topic will be offered during every semester. That’s why it’s important to check the
Course Sections options, which is the first option under the “Courses” column.
1) Select
Course Sections under the “Courses” column
2) Select
Fordham College at Rose Hill on right side of screen (some classes, such as Arabic, may only be offered at Lincoln Center campus. If you believe this to be the case, check there after checking at Rose Hill).
3) Select the term for which you intend to register (in this case, it will be “Spring Term 2008”)
4) Once accessed, the course sections will appear under the same title that they did on the course catalogue. Select the category you’re looking for (e.g., Communication and Media Studies, Mathematics).
5) Scroll down until you see the title of the actual course and double click or highlight and click submit.
6) Course sections, including code necessary when registering, will appear along with times and professors.
