FROM THE LATIN - STUDIUM LIBERALIM:
FORDHAM COLLEGE OF LIBERAL STUDIES |
| |
|
The educational program appropriate to - and necessary for - the fullest exercise of personal freedom and one's capacity for productive citizenship, professional achievement, and leadership.
The Fordham University diploma has stood for quality for more than 150 years. And for more than 50 of those years, Fordham's adult degree program has been among the most highly regarded in the tri-state area in pursuing its mission - to provide an outstanding academic program for men and women who are also engaged with career or family responsibilities.
For nearly thirty years. The EXCEL Program, founded in 1969, at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus, provided adult learners with a supportive and challenging environment in which to begin or resume their progress toward the bachelor’s degree.
For over fifty years, Ignatius College – founded in 1944 in lower Manhattan, later moved to the Rose Hill campus – pursued essentially the same mission: to provide and outstanding academic program for men and women who are also engaged with career or family responsibilities.
In December of 1997, acting on the recommendation of the President of Fordham University and the advice of the Faculty Senate, the Board of Trustees authorized the formation of a new college – Fordham College of Liberal Studies – blending the distinct strengths of Ignatius and EXCEL into a single, bi-campus college beginning September 1998.
In July 2002, with the consolidation of Fordham University and Marymount College, the latter’s unique weekend program became the Tarrytown Campus of Fordham College of Liberal Studies.
Fordham College of Liberal Studies enables working adults and other part-time students to choose among three of the most stunning campuses in New York – or to study at all three, as their schedules and interests require. At each campus, students are part of a full-service college dedicated to adult learners in scheduling, advising, activities, policies and procedures. Most importantly, they are provided access to the faculty and programs of one of the nation’s most highly regarded universities and the opportunity to become part of the Fordham University tradition.
