Foundation for Child Development Invites Proposals for PK-3 Research Small Grants Program

 Deadline: July 15, 2008

The Foundation for Child Development has announced a small grants program to be funded through its PK-3 Research and Evaluation Forum.

The program has three major goals: to stimulate research that  spans early education and early elementary education to inform PK-3 efforts across the United States; to foster multi- disciplinary perspectives and build a field of research that examines how children's education and home contexts influence  developmental outcomes from PK through at least third grade;  and to increase the use of datasets that can inform FCD's PK-3 initiative.

Researchers must use one or more datasets included in the PK-3 Data Resource Center: The First Six Years of Schooling and Beyond (http://fcd-us.org/programs/programs_show.htm?doc_id=677373).

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. or its equivalent in one of the behavioral and social sciences or in an allied professional field (e.g., public policy, public health, education, social work, nursing, medicine.) Applicants must be U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, or those who have employment authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services for the duration of the grant. Junior scholars are encouraged to apply.

The program will provide a maximum of four awards of up to $50,000 each. All funds are to be used over a period from one to two years.

Toshiba America Foundation Accepting Science and Math Education Project Proposals

Deadline: August 1, 2008 (Large Grants)

The mission of the Toshiba America Foundation is to promote quality science and mathematics education in U.S. schools. Grants are made for  programs and activities that improve teaching and learning in  science and mathematics in grades K-12. The foundation focuses its grantmaking on inquiry-based projects designed by individual teachers and small teams of teachers for use in their own classrooms.

The foundation is currently accepting applications for projects for grades 7-12. (Toshiba America Foundation offers a separate program for grades K-6. See the foundation's Web site for further information.)

The grants program is national in scope. Proposals are welcome  from public and private (nonprofit) schools throughout the U.S.

The foundation has also made a special commitment to support  projects in regions where Toshiba America Group companies have  offices.

Decisions about grants of under $5,000 are made on a rolling  basis and applications are accepted throughout the year. For  grants larger than $5,000, the board of directors approves grant  requests twice a year. Applicants should submit their large grant  proposals no later than either August 1 or February 1, annually.

For complete program guidelines and descriptions of recent grants,  visit the foundation's Web site.
