Dr. Joshua Schapiro, postdoctoral fellow in theology at Fordham University, will discuss the ways in which Buddhism treats pain and discomfort as positive forces in the service of ethical growth; namely to strengthen the instinct to prioritize the wellbeing of others over oneself.  Dr. Christopher Gowans (Philosophy) will offer a brief response.
