MCGANNON CENTER Hosts SYMPOSIUM ON DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES IN MEDIA POLICY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
1.28.05. The McGannon Center hosted a day-long symposium entitled "Democratic Principles in Media Policy in the 21st Century," on Fordham University's Lincoln Center campus. Co-sponsored and co-organized with the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University Law School, the symposium featured scholars and public interest advocates from around the country. The focus of the symposium was on identifying the key media policy issues and challenges associated with promoting and sustaining a media system that effectively serves demoracy, and on identifying the key research needs of policymakers and policy advocates. This inter-disciplinary symposium featured scholars from institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Wisconsin, NYU, the University of California, and Georgetown University. The symposium is part of the McGannon Center's ongoing efforts to forge stronger linkages between media policy research and media policymaking and policy advocacy.
