I.      Introduction

As set forth in the University Statutes, involvement in significant scholarly research is a responsibility of full-time faculty at Fordham. The University offers internal support for faculty research in the form of Faculty Fellowships, Faculty Research Grants, and through the Faculty Research Expense Program.  Faculty may also compete for external support from government agencies, foundations, and corporations. This latter source of support has grown in importance in recent decades. Competition with peers in one's discipline is a way to develop research capability, increase productivity, and engage in conversation with a wider scholarly community. The University encourages such activity.

To assist faculty in carrying out research at Fordham, we have compiled this manual of policies and procedures. These guidelines are informed by the University Statutes and have been reviewed and approved by the Academic Vice President and the University Research Council.
