applying to study abroad for the summer

Fordham University Led Summer Courses
APPLICATION PROCESS
Please make sure to familiarize yourself with the Fordham Study Abroad Guidelines. Students are required to attend one "International Education Advising Seminar" prior to applying to study abroad. For a current list of dates and times, please review the ISAP Calendar.

Fordham Summer Application The Fordham application is completed online. To begin, visit the course options.  You can click the "apply" button on that page. You will see a list of items that you will need to complete online.

Required materials that will be requested:
  • Application Fee The required non-refundable application fee ($75) will be charged to your Fordham University Student Account and is adjusted so that applications received during the above-mentioned Early Action Period datesare subject to a discounted fee ($50).
  • Statement of Purpose Questionnaire
  • Course Leader Form
Please note that applications cannot be reviewed until ALL of the forms above are received. We cannot guarantee acceptance to students who submit applications by the Early Action dates, but the closer to these dates an application is received, the greater chance a student has of being considered for approval by Fordham and admitted into his/her chosen program. Approval remains subject to review of academic performance, personal conduct the semesters before study abroad, and the reasons advanced for seeking a study abroad experience. Most students will be notified about the status of their application within one month its completion, but some may take a little longer.

Eligibility
Unless otherwise specified Fordham’s short-term faculty led programs are open to undergraduates from any discipline currently seeking a degree at a US institution. Applicants should have a sophomore standing, a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a clear disciplinary record.

Third Party Programs
Many, but not all, of our semester and academic year study abroad partners offer summer, winter, or other short-term programs. We recommend that students consider these programs and to further research their options, which are many, at www.studyabroad.com. Please make sure to familiarize yourself with the Fordham Study Abroad Guidelines.

The Study Abroad Application Process involves completing two applications:
  1. Fordham Study Abroad Application
  2. Your Chosen Study Abroad Application
non-Fordham Application
The Fordham application is completed online. To begin, visit the finding a programs page and search for your program.

  • Course Approval Form
  • Program Information Questionnaire
Third Party Program Application
Most third party program applications will look very simliar to Fordham's Short-Term Application with general background information, essays and recommendations. Their applications can typically be found on their websites.

IMPORTANT: When submitting your application, make sure to include everything required by the program, including an official transcript, which can be obtained on the first floor of Thebaud Hall at Rose Hill or room 216A in the Lowenstein Building at Lincoln Center. We recommend that you pick up the transcript yourself (as opposed to having it mailed to the program), so you can include it with the rest of your application. Requests are generally fulfilled within 7-10 business days. Please note that requests are not processed while the University is closed, and may take longer to process during peak times.

Form to be submitted to ISAP:
Study Abroad Program Approval Form

Most program applications contain a programapproval form which must be signed by the ISAP Director.  Names for the form vary depending on the program.  Note that the form cannot be signed until the Fordham Study Abroad Applicationhas been received and reviewed.  Once it has been signed, it will be sent directly to the program
.

Program Deadline

Program application deadlines vary. Many programs offer rolling admissions and can fill up many months before their published deadlines.  Applicants who apply early on enjoy several benefits, the two most significant being:
  1. An opportunity to apply earlier to their program of choice (this is importantfor programs which review applications on a rolling basis)
  2. Time to research and apply to scholarships offered by their chosen program or other institutions or organizations
