description

This course will introduce you to a relatively diverse selection of authors, texts, historical periods, themes, topics, and genres in French literature and culture with a specific emphasis on texts and works related to Paris. We also will review and expand on pertinent linguistic structures and rhetoric to aid you in the analysis, discussion, and commentary of such texts. While grammar will be discussed in the context of the texts we are reading, more emphasis will be placed on literary and cultural analysis and discussion. Students can expect to improve their written and spoken French through papers, journals, and class discussion as well their skills at literary and cultural analysis.

In addition to class four days a week, students will participate in a number of cultural excursions including cultural visits to Versailles, the Comédie Française, and the Opéra Garnier. An additional elective-course in animation taught in French twice a week by the artist Richard Nègre can also be added for a fee.
