credits 2
description This 18-day 2-credit course counts as elective credit for Fordham's Theatre major or minor. It may also be counted for other departments, but that must be determined individually. It includes work in acting, movement, dance, and Michael Chekhov technique, as well as Russian theatre history, a Moscow city tour and a survey of current performances in the Moscow theatre. Throughout the two weeks, the Moscow Art Theatre School will organize attendance at performances in Moscow Theatres.
The design courses will highlight the rich history of Russian theatre design and contemporary work, backstage visits, and a survey of Russian museums including the Theatre Archive at the Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum. There will be practical lessons in drawing and painting, as well as meetings with famous Moscow theatre designers. There will be visits to production departments of some of Moscow's theatres. Designers can take Theatre History, a seminar, and "Design for Chekhov Plays", where most of the attention will be dedicated to costume design, but scenography and light design will be discussed as well.
