Capital City Fellows Program
The Capital City Fellows Program is a mayoral initiative of the District of Columbia. Fellows are given two-year fellowship appointments comprised of four six-month rotations in various city agencies (of Washington, D.C.). The program seeks talented young leaders who have a demonstrated committment to public service and have recently graduated from master's degree programs in public administration, public policy, urban planning, or related fields. Its mission is to introduce fellows to the challenges of local government public service and to bring young talent to the District of Columbia.
The fellowship includes a program of four six-month rotations in District of Columbia city agencies, for a total of two years. Throughout the fellowship, Fellows also participate in educational and professional development programs and seminars and have numerous opportunities to meet with high-level city officials.
Fellows receive an annual salary of $50,000 and are eligible for standard city government employee benefits including health insurance, annual (vacation), and sick leave.
- be a U.S. citizen or have legal non-citizen residence status
- have earned a relevant graduate degree (with a GPA of 3.5 or higher) within two years prior to the fellowship start date
- be able to establish residence in the District of Columbia within 180 days of appointment
Candidates are evaluated on their academic records, strength of their application materials, capacity for leadership, potential for future professional growth, and demonstrated commitment to a public service career.
