The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers Summer Institutes for U.S. undergraduates to go to the United Kingdom for a three, four, five, or six week summer program. The program includes academic study at a UK university and a chance to "explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK." There are currently nine Summer Programs available: AIFS Summer Institute at Shakespeare's Globe, Durham University Summer Institute, King's College London Summer Institute, Queen's University Belfast Summer Institute, Scotland Summer Institute, University of Bristol Summer Institute, University of Exeter Summer Institute, and Wales Summer Institute.
UK Fulbright Commission Summer Institutes
The Summer Institutes cover the majority of costs, including round trip airfare, tuition, accomodation, meals, and in some cases a daily allowance.
Applicants should possess "leadership qualities and initiative, academic ability, character, adaptability and ambassadorial qualities, as well as an interest in the UK and its culture." Additionally, applicants can only apply for one of the summer institutes.
External deadline: March 2014 (TBA)
- be a U.S. citizen (dual US-UK citizens are welcome to apply, but preference is given to candidates who have had little to no study or travel in the UK or outside of the US)
- be over 18 years of age
- have at least two years of undergraduate study left after the Summer Institute ends
- have a minimum GPA of 3.5
