In the long-standing tradition of Jesuit education, Fordham University encourages study—both on campus and abroad—that enhances students’ understanding of the world’s peoples and their interdependence. Our goal is to help students prepare for the challenges of studying abroad by enabling them to gain an understanding of other cultures and to incorporate a global dimension to their chosen field of study. The University recognizes a sustained period of study in another culture is desirable and offers, through consortia and affiliation agreements, one of the most extensive networks for foreign study of any major university. While to many participants foreign study has been one of the most rewarding educational experiences they have had, full-term (semester/academic year) study abroad is not, however, a requirement, nor an entitlement of a Fordham education. Rather, applicants earn the right to study abroad on a full-term basis by high academic performance, a clearly reasoned academic purpose, appropriate preparation, and conduct that demonstrates genuine enthusiasm for learning about and experiencing other cultures.

Have general questions about programs, how to apply to admission, and what Fordham expects of study abroad participants?  Please stop by our offices—the ISAP staff very much looks forward to working with you and to offering the advising and pre-departure services you’ll need to get the most out of your experience abroad.
