Program: Internship / Boston University
Location: Various
Is This Program Right For You? Boston University’s internship programs combine coursework in a particular academic area with professional work experience. The coursework and the internship complement one another, enabling students to deepen their understanding of the culture and work environment of the host country. Internship programs offer courses in language, liberal arts, and more specialized fields such as business and finance; advertising, marketing, and public relations; journalism; and politics and international relations, to name a few. Upon successful completion of the semester, students receive 15 to 20 Boston University credits.
Internship placements are made by experienced professionals at our program sites, based on the experience, needs, and objectives of each student. Students should note that placements are diverse, and they need to be flexible about their assignments. Internships are assessed differently in each program, but may require a portfolio, written work, research, and/or field study throughout the internship period.
The Courses/Program: At the beginning of the program, students enroll in several courses. These may be language courses, core courses that focus on an aspect of the local culture, or general courses which students can choose from a list of electives. During this time, students in most locations also meet with internship placement advisors to refine their idea of work placement according to ability, professional goals, experience, and work habits. Please see the Boston University catalogue for more information about each internship program.
