Welcome to London Dramatic Academy
A LDA student from Spring 2007 says: I know I am a better actor, because of your direction, support and advice and because of the amazing program you have set up.
Spring Semester 2010
Richard Digby Day
Welcome to our website. If you are interested in a fully accredited 14 week intensive theatre programme in London, please have a look around. For over 30 years the London Dramatic Academy has enabled students from the United States to experience British Classical theatre training in a bold and innovative style. As a recent student said ‘LDA enriched my life, not only as an artist but as a human being’. This programme makes demands but it gives rewards.
It is our second year in our splendid new premises in the Fordham University London Centre. It is situated in Kensington Square and is part of Heythrop College. This square is a fascinating and historic space, home at various times to the great philosopher John Stuart Mill, to the Victorian painter Edward Burne Jones and the great actress Mrs. Patrick Campbell, creator of Bernard Shaw’s Eliza Doolittle. In LDA’s programme we work on the principle of using the lessons of the past and present to make theatre for the future. This couldn’t be a better place to do it.
As an integral part of the programme, as usual, students are seeing a wide variety of performances, including work by the National Theatre Company, the Royal Shakespeare Company, English National Opera and the Royal Ballet. They are also having frequent opportunities to meet and talk with theatre professionals, such as actors Honor Blackman, Rosalind Knight, Alexandra Gilbreath (Twelfth Night, Duke of York Theatre) among others.
Students will visit museums, galleries, historic buildings and churches in London. This semester we will also see major exhibits at Tate Britain and the British Museum. Later on, apart from the usual visit to Stratford-upon-Avon and the Cotswolds, there will be an excursion to Hampton Court. In other words, LDA is its usual hive of activity!
Richard Digby Day will be visiting US colleges in February, make sure to see the “Before You Apply” page for his itinerary! We also have a brand new brochure, which can be downloaded from this site – please contact us if you would like a copy mailed to you.
Applications for the Fall 2010 Semester are due by October 1.
Here you will find information about and images of one of the most exciting theatre study programmes in the United Kingdom. This is a programme designed above all to be practical. You breathe, eat and live theatre.
The London Dramatic Academy addresses theatre as a craft and enables to improve your skills during the intensive fourteen week semester. Within all this there is also time to experience London itself – one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
There are not only the classes themselves, which are described on the following pages, but there are regular Masterclasses, cultural visits and a weekly theatre outing.
We very much hope that if you are interested you will take up the challenges offered by the LDA.
