Text:

P. Atkins, J. de Paula, Physical Chemistry, 8th ed., W.H. Freeman, 2006.

Schedule:

The schedule of lecture topics, readings, due dates for homework assignments, recitations, and examinations is provided on the Lectures page. The Final Exam will be cumulative and will be given on the date scheduled by the Registrar.

Homework:

Performing the homework is central to understanding many of the physical concepts encountered in this course and as such is required. Seven homework sets will be distributed during the term; only the best six grades will be averaged into the course grade. While students are encouraged to work together on homework each must submit his/her own computations and results. Because the solutions are distributed on the due date absolutely no late problem sets will be accepted.

Grading:

Of the following schemes, that which produces the best possible grade for the course will be used. Uncharacteristically poor performance on one of the Hour Exams is mitigated by this scheme.
