Graduate Public Communication
The Public Communication program at Fordham University links both new and old to promote humanistic information strategies that unite groups and individuals for the social good. Participants in our program gain the analytical methods and creative skills needed to thrive in a society increasingly based on mediated interaction. In doing so, our students are better able to participate in civic, cultural and political life.
We offer a Master’s degree with concentrations in:
To receive the M.A. degree, students must complete 30 credits as well as a capstone research or analytical paper or a multimedia project. Developing and completing the capstone projects also counts as coursework, and students also may enroll in individual studies under the direction of a professor of their choice.
We offer two graduate assistantships each academic year in the following areas:
- Public Communication Office
- Donald McGannon Communications Research Center
In addition, Fordham’s award-winning radio station, WFUV-FM, offers three Graduate Assistant awards each year.
Public Communication at Fordham encompasses the study of rhetoric and traditional and new media – including:
- media technology
- policy and regulation
- popular culture
- journalism
The knowledge and skills provided by the Public Communication program allow participants to develop their skills in:
- audio/visual and interactive communication
- writers, directors, producers and programmers
- analysts
- critics and teachers
Above all, we emphasize the Jesuit tradition of ethics and service to others.
