Creative Writing

The graduate and undergraduate creative writing programs exist as an integrated part of a research-based English department with a lively interest in the relationship between creative writing and the study of literary texts from a variety of critical and theoretical vantage points. We feel that the study of literature and the practice of writing are mutually reinforcing; our core faculty members are both scholars and creative writers. We offer small classes in a personal, advisor-driven environment, relying on core faculty and two rotating writer-in-residence positions.

Your triggering subjects are those that ignite your need for words. When you are honest to your feelings, that triggering town chooses you. Your words used your way will generate your meanings. Your obsessions lead you to your vocabulary. Your way of writing locates, even creates, your inner life. The relation of you to your language gains power.
