Online Program for Catechists, Religion Teachers
and for those who hope to Deepen their Faith
|
| |
The Francis and Ann Curran Center for American Catholic Studies is pleased to announce our new online program for catechists, religion teachers and for those seeking to deepen their faith.

|
The text for the program is Into the Fields, an adult formation resource developed by Twenty-Third Publications of New London, CT. This unique program for catechists and teachers combines spirituality, theological content, and teaching skills. It is rooted in Scripture, liturgy, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and is based on both the General Directory for Catechesis and the National Directory for Catechesis. |
Fordham faculty members will conduct the online courses through a series of three ten-week semesters covering these subject areas:
• 1) Sessions 1-10: Basic Catechetical Skills and Attitudes,
• 2) Sessions 11-20: Styles of Teaching and Learning, and
• 3) Sessions 21-30: Teaching Specific Catholic Topics.
The Into the Fields Online Course will provide the following:
• The opportunity to deepen one’s faith through the practice
of 30 Ignatian-style spiritual exercises
• Comprehensive, Catechism-based review of Catholic teaching
• Practical catechetical skills
• Concrete teaching methods that work in real classrooms
• Music CDs to accompany the spiritual exercises
In addition, each course will offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Fordham University.
Fr. Nicholas Lombardi, S.J., a Jesuit priest who has taught and worked at every level of education in the United States from grammar school to college, is the principal designer and director of the online program. Fordham’s online program seeks to provide an opportunity for interested Catholic adults to become part of a community of virtual learners seeking to deepen their faith in Jesus Christ, to grow in the knowledge of what the church teaches, and to be prepared to pass the faith on to others. The Into the Fields Online Course will allow the participants to engage in “anytime anywhere” learning and faith enrichment.
Requirements for the course
Requirements for the course include basic computer skills, word processing, and surfing the Internet using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or a compatible browser, and installation of the free Flash and Real players for media files.
The cost of the program
The cost of the program will be $20 per session or $200 per course, and will offer 3 continuing education units per course for the participants. The first course will be offered in September 2009 and will be limited to 20 participants. To reserve your seat or for further information, please contact the Curran Center by email at cacs@fordham.edu. |
